Glynde 1st XI beat Fletching 1st XI

19 May 2007

Fletching won the toss and chose to field.

The decision to field looked like the perfect answer to Fletching’s defeat last week against newly promoted Ditchling. Despite timing the ball well, both Glynde openers, Adams ( 21 ) and Shepard ( 12 ) found scoring runs difficult as Fletching captain, Lucas bowled beautifully on a pitch giving him some assistance. Moland ( 17 ) , Harris ( 0 ) suffered in the same manner, and when Howard went for 1 the home side were 59 for 5.

Davies then came to the wicket and from ball one his intentions were clear - to attack! He smashed 14 fours and 2 sixes in a powerful knock that also included some streaky shots. Along with Smith ( 58 ) who drove the ball with finesse the pair put 113 for the 6 wicket. Glynde eventually declared on 232 as Davies reached his hundred.

Pick of the bowlers was Lucas with figures of 4 – 95.

Fletching made a steady start with Matt Hoadley (18), Dave Meacher ( 18 ) and Jamie Russell (19) all getting a start but failing to go on. Grant Horscroft blasted 22 and Tom Randle top scored with 34. The middle order only produced 23 runs as leg spinner Harris ( 3 – 32 ) had the batsmen in difficulties. When Smith was out for 18 the innings soon folded on 161.

Result – Glynde ( 30 points ) beat Fletching ( 11 points ) by 73 runs.
