Toss won by Fletching who decided to field

Once again, the winning of the toss was vital and Fletching had the good fortune to field first. Ed Smith ( 0-11 in 7 overs) and Budden ( 0-19 off of 8 overs) kept a lid on the runs for the homeside. Paul McDonald made 26 and James Wise looked good for his 32. However wickets fell cheaply due to good bowling by Glen Potter and Terry Lucas, and Hellingly found themselves under the ‘cosh ‘ at 98 for 5. Then Bob Pye and Fidler developed a useful 6 wicket stand of 30 and with the hard work done. Potter continued to take wickets and the home side lost 4 wickets for 10 runs. Lucas and Potter were changed for Budden and Smith although unfortunately Windless ( 27 not out ) took liking to them both and after 55 overs, Hellingly finished 179 for 9.

Pick of the bowlers was Glen Potter with 6 -43.Â

In reply Russell and Hoadley took their time to get in on a wicket that still had something in it for the bowlers. Russell went for 14 caught and bowled by Dave Pye and Budden fell to Preston after hitting some great shots through the covers. Hoadley fell for 25 and Randle made 10. Ed Smith who has made some awesome runs in the local 20 20 games racked up 18 quickly but fell to a good ball by Bob Pye. At 93 for 5, Fletching nervously awaited a stand to get them to their 3rd win on the trot. Grant Horscroft smashed the ball around and Dave Meacher took his time to get in. Between them they added 62 when Horscroft fell for 40. Captain Lucas entered the game knowing that a few lusty blows would do it. Meacher went for 25 LBW and Terry Lucas ( 18 not out ) knocked off the winning runs.

Pick of the bowlers was Bob Pye with figures of 3 -51. Â

Fletching 29 points beat Hellingly ( 13 points ) by 3 wickets
