Rotherfield 2nd XI drew with Fletching 2nd XI
Fletching 2nd XI fielded a strong looking team as they visited Rotherfield on a blustery afternoon. Once again Ali Horscroft lost the toss, and was delighted when asked to bat first.
Andy Fitzgerald 65 and Trevor Brown 39 provided solid foundations putting on an opening stand of 76. When Trevor fell Mark Horscroft came to the crease making a welcome rare appearance for the 2nds. Expectations were high that experienced 1st team stalwart Mark would be able to make the step up to this level of cricket. However, the standard of bowling caught Mark by surprise and the Rotherfield bowler deceived him with a slower ball that had him trapped plumb in front for a duck.
JJ Ticehurst then continued his impressive form blasting 62 and ably supported by Andy Horscroft with 42 Fletching closed on 241 for 7.
In reply, Rotherfield got off to an ominous start with openers Baldock and T. Williamson putting on an untroubled century stand. With Baldock falling for 40, Buck then came and with Williamson closing in on his century Rotherfield looked well on course to better Fletching’s total. Sam Newman finally accounted for T Williamson who scored a wonderful 102 and Buck fell soon after for 44.
With the run rate creeping up Rotherfield lost a flurry of wickets and with JJ Ticehurst 4-69 and Ali Horscroft 2-42 bowling well, Rotherfield finished only 3 runs short on 238-7.
