Last ball thriller sees the visitors to victory !!!!

Fletching 1st XI v Chiddingly 1st X1

Saturday 14 July

Toss won by Chiddingly who decided to field

The home side lost two early wickets with the score on 13. This brought together Grant Horscroft and Matthew Hoadley and they added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket. Young Ian Stermer bowled very well from one end and both batsmen had difficulties getting him away. Tom Carr used his experience to keep the score down and Horscroft was out for 37 bowled in the first over of Sturmer’s second spell. Captain Terry Lucas had batted extremely well for his 37 but was caught behind. Meacher joined Hoadley although Hoadley seemed impatient losing his wicket for 43 to a soft catch after working so hard in the early overs. There then followed a great challenge between Carr and Meacher. Meacher manufactured a number of excellent shots inn his 31 before Carr had the last laugh. Mat Lucas and Mark Hoadley managed to close the innings on 195 for 7.

The best bowler was Carr with 3 – 73.

In return Chiddingly were very watchful and despite losing Packham for 0 with the score on 4, Earle and Suvic took the score onto 77 when Suvic fell for 22. Fletching bowlers Lucas an Smith bolwed a tight line but they couldn t help Earle claim his half century. With the score on 102 for 3 and 13 overs to play, a draw looked the likely result. However Lofthouse and Youngman had different ideas as they added 50 runs in quick time. There then followed a procession of batsmen as the visitors had victory in sight. Ed Smith bowled a fantastic penultimate over going for 2 runs but it was left to Lofthouse to seal victory form the last ball of the game.

Lucas took 7 - 92.
