Fletching 1st XI beat Crowhurst Park 1st XI

Fletching secure surprise win !!!!

Toss won by Fletching who decided to field

The usual pairing of Park’s Barry and Brookes settled in comfortably on what looked like a bowlers’ wicket. Barry in particular was savage on anything short of a length. Ed Smith bowled his 7 overs economically but it was Potter that made the breakthrough, coming up the hill. He enticed Brookes one too many occasions and he hit to Randle in the covers for 25. The second wicket added 46 before Potter had Hancock LBW for 15 without playing a shot.

Philcox then joined Barry. Barry had hit 10 fours and a six in his 64 before he was caught behind off of Potter. Coleman then fell LBW to Potter for 1 and Eames joined Philcox. Captain Lucas had continued to bowl through the innings and together with Potter, the away side found runs fairly difficult to find. Potter grabbed his 5th wicket when Eames was bowled behind his legs.

Despite the odd dropped catch the home side had fielded well and despite a late flourish the away side only managed 234 for 6wickets.

Pick of the bowlers were Potter ( 5 - 82 ) and Lucas ( 28 overs 1-114 )

Fletching have struggled with their confidence in their batting recently and 234 was a big ask batting second on a helpful wicket. The opposition opened up with an attacking option of spin. This allowed Russell and Hoadley to get settled as the put on 66 for the first wicket ( Hoadley going for 15 ). Russell then batted beautifully hitting 13 fours in his 66. Tom Randle and taken some time to get in having played second fiddle to Russell. Grant Horscroft was typically attacking but was bowled playing back on the Fletching track. Meacher then joined Randle with 140 runs still needed. He also struggled early on to get the pace of the wicket but with each ball he seemed to grow in confidence. The scoreboard kept ticking over and Crowhurst park tried different bowling options as they became more and more frustrated. Eventually Randle went for 41 and Lucas joined Meacher. By now there were many gaps and the Flecthing pair got nearer and nearer to their target. It was Meacher ( 64 not out ) who hit the winning runs in a stand of 65 with Lucas ( 21 not out ) in what was a brilliant advertisement for the game of cricket. Â

Pick of the bowlers was Brookes with 3 - 63.

Fletching 26 points beat Crowhurst Park ( 14 points ) by 6 wickets
