Fletching 2nd XI beat Glynde 3rd XI

Fletching moved to within 1 point of visitors Glynde with a 33-run at the Rec.

Andy Horscroft struck 10 fours in his 52 and his contribution proved to be the difference between the teams as a low scoring contest saw early wickets tumble in both innings.

Fletching got off to a poor start and found themselves in deep trouble when the top 4 batsmen were sitting back in the hut with the score only on 26. Chris Hartup, making his bow for the 2nd’s this season, joined the aforementioned Andy Horscroft in bringing the total to within a whisker of respectability, before another flurry of wickets saw Fletching tumble to 122-9.

The final pairing of Matt Fisk and Sam Newman put on a tenacious 32 before Sam departed in the 42nd over leaving Glynde chasing 155 to win.

The consensus was that the home side were about 50 runs short of a competitive total, so the mood was glum as the home side tucked into another fabulous tea.

Ed Smith and Chris Hartup soon changed the mood in the home camp. With Ed thundering in from the pavilion end and Chris prancing in from the other, Fletching got off to a dream start taking 6 wickets for only 12 runs. An astonishing spell from Chris Hartup saw him take 4 for 1 from his first seven overs.

When JJ Ticehurst took the seventh wicket with the score on 26 an early finish seemed to be on the cards. However, Glydne’s youthful side showed great spirit and determination and with M. Hobden (40 no) particularly impressive, Glynde started to make inroads into the required total.

Ed Smith (4 for 34) returned to the attack and with continued accuracy claimed the last two wickets. Andy FitzGerald, who once again kept brilliantly, laid claim to the glory with a wonderful long range stumping to ensure a much needed victory for the home side.
